ABOUT SWG

Meet Sanya Whittaker Gragg, MSW
Wife, Mom, Social Worker, and now Author, Sanya has always had a passion for working with and inspiring kids.
Sanya Whittaker Gragg is an Amazon Best-Selling Author with a passion for working with and inspiring children. A native of Nashville, she holds degrees from the University of Memphis, Georgia State University, and the University of Southern California. With a diverse career, Sanya has worn many hats, including ten years in marketing and PR, working for major companies like NIKE, the Detroit Pistons, and the University of Michigan Athletics Department. She also served as an assistant to best-selling author E. Lynn Harris.
Sanya has also contributed to her community in various capacities including serving on the board of a homeless shelter for families and advocating for foster children as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA). These experiences led her to pursue an M.S.W., eventually becoming a school-based therapist and social worker for Tulsa Public Schools.
She has written five picture books, each tackling important and often difficult topics. Raising two black sons prompted Sanya to write her debut book which helps parents have “the talk” on interacting with police. It was featured in Essence magazine, Huffington Post, and The Undefeated. This picture book also received a starred review from The School Library Journal and Kirkus Reviews called it “a heartbreakingly necessary work”. Her follow-up titles tackle subjects like bullying, picky eating, and building self-confidence. And coming soon, an amazing new resource for teachers to help facilitate conversations about school safety drills.
